The NDA Medical Examination is conducted after the SSB Interview. It checks whether the candidate is medically fit to join the Indian Armed Forces. The standards are strict because military life is physically and mentally challenging.

After clearing the NDA written exam and SSB interview, candidates undergo a medical test.


Conducted by a Board of Service Medical Officers at:


Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune


Command Hospitals


Military Hospitals

1. Special Medical Board (SMB) – First checkup



2. Appeal Medical Board (AMB) – If found unfit, you can request re-examination

Height (Boys) Minimum 157 cm (Army/Navy), 162.5 cm (Air Force)

Height (Girls) Minimum 152 cm

Weight Must be proportionate to height and age

Body Mass Index (BMI) Should be within normal range

Vision No night blindness or color blindness, 6/6 or 6/9 (correctable to 6/6)
